• Sulforaphane has demonstrated far reaching and significant benefits with regard to detoxification, antioxidant support and anti-inflammatory effects in vitro, animal and human models.^1,2 Through activating the nuclear transcription factor Nrf2 and subsequently increasing the expression of cytoprotective genes, sulforaphane is the most potent, known, naturally occurring inducer of phase II enzymes.³ These enzymes are known to play a key role in cellular defence mechanisms, protecting cells against inflammation, oxidative stress and free radical damage,^4,5,6 in addition to supporting detoxification processes.^7,8,9,10
• Supplementing with one capsule of Metagenics SulforaClear is equivalent to consuming approximately 1¾ cups of fresh broccoli in regards to glucoraphanin intake. This is an important aspect when it comes to ensuring patients experience consistent therapeutic benefits of sulforaphane. Although dietary broccoli is an excellent source of nutrition and yields the highest amount of sulforaphane compared to other cruciferous vegetables, the cooking process reduces myrosinase levels, affecting conversion into sulforaphane (Figure 1).
